WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (4-4) couldn't hold a two-set advantage and eventually succumbed to Catawba (4-3), 3-2, Tuesday evening in the 2025 home opener at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Indians won over the Bulldogs by scores of 15-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-15 and 15-11 for their second straight victory.
Catawba was paced by Eli Zdonek (Greenville, S.C.) with a match-high 21 kills while Trevor Phillips (Davidson, N.C.) added 18 kills in the triumph. The Indians' setter, Kristian Smith (Zebulon, N.C.), came through with 55 assists and the visitors overcame 25 service errors to knock off the Bulldogs.
Barton was led by freshman outside hitter
Lawson Hink (Brookfield, Wis.) with a team-high 15 kills and senior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 41 assists and seven digs in the losing effort.
The Bulldogs held match point at 24-23 in the third set but the Indians scored three straight points to take the set and keep the match alive.
Barton remains at home to take on Edward Waters on Thursday night beginning at 7:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium while Catawba travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens Thursday starting at 6:00 p.m.
