TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (9-8, 5-4) moved over .500 on the season with a 72-65 victory over North Greenville (8-9, 4-5) Monday afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas game.
Barton senior guards
Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) and
Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) combined for 42 points in the win. Nelson led all scorers with 22 points including an 11-of-13 performance from the charity stripe while Fortuny added 20 points and hit six treys in the triumph.
Holding a 35-29 advantage at halftime, the Bulldogs reeled off the first nine points of the second half to take control. The Bulldogs held the Trailblazers to just 20 percent shooting (five-of-25) from behind the three-point line in the win.
North Greenville's CaDarrius Sowell (Kershaw, S.C.) finished with a team-high 20 points and Michael Wilson, Jr. (Charlotte, N.C.) totaled 18 points in the losing effort.
Barton also held a 39-35 edge on the boards and hit eight treys in the game.
Barton returns home to face rival Mount Olive on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., in a conference contest at Wilson Gymnasium while North Greenville hosts Converse Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m.
