Barton women’s soccer shuts out Mars Hill, 2-0, for first win of the 2024 season

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-1) shut out Mars Hill (1-1), 2-0, Sunday afternoon on the road at the Ammons Family Athletic Center for the Bulldogs' first win of the 2024 campaign.

Barton junior midfielder Iris Gissuradottir (Selfoss, ICELAND) scored just 48 seconds into the contest after receiving a pass off a steal from senior midfielder Gianna Ferigne (Brick Township, N.J.), who was credited with the assist.

The Bulldogs rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute when junior midfielder Jenessa Gray (Orlando, Fla.) found the back of the net after finishing off a long pass from the left side courtesy of senior defender Hannah Johnson (Oneonta, N.Y.).  Johnson beat the Lions' defender one-on-one in the center just outside the box for the goal.

Barton held a 10-7 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) earned the shutout victory after stopping three shots on the day.  Mars Hill's goalkeeper, Camryn Miller (Sandy, Utah), made five saves but suffered the loss.

Barton hosts Coker in its home opener on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex while Mars Hill faces Newberry in a South Atlantic Conference match in Newberry, S.C., on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m.
