WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (0-1) suffered a 3-1 loss to Wingate (1-0) Thursday evening in the 2024 season opener at Pride Park and the Bulldogs complex.
Wingate's Manu Baptista Filipe (Santa Maria Da Feira, PORTUGAL) scored twice in the second half to break a one-all halftime tie including a goal with 45 seconds left to ice the contest for the home team.
Barton tied the score at one thanks to a penalty kick goal from senior midfielder
Gianna Ferigne (Brick Township, N.J.) in the 43rd minute of the first half.
Wingate held a 19-5 advantage in shots taken while Haley Faucette (Burlington, N.C.) earned the win in goal after stopping three shots on the day. Barton senior goalkeeper
Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) suffered the loss despite six stops.
Barton remains on the road to take on Mars Hill on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., in Mars Hill, N.C., while Wingate hosts Mount Olive on Sunday starting at 5:00 p.m.
