Barton women’s soccer rolls in conference opener, 3-0 at home over Erskine

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (4-1-1, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 3-0 victory over Erskine (1-2-1, 0-2-1) on Saturday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Three different players scored for the Bulldogs – freshman defender Taylor Esposito (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.), senior forward Anna Fretwell (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) and graduate student forward Lexis Goldberg (Sanford, N.C.) – while Barton registered its fifth consecutive shutout.

Esposito notched her first collegiate goal off a free kick in the middle of the box just 17:02 into the match while Fretwell scored her first goal of the season as well just five minutes before halftime to give the home team a 2-0 cushion.

Goldberg rounded out the scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the fall campaign in the 89th minute and senior goalkeeper Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) earned her fifth consecutive shutout on the day and extended her scoreless streak to 450:45 minutes.

Barton held a 25-3 edge in shots taken while Valentina Santana (Miami, Fla.) suffered the loss in goal for Erskine after stopping seven shots on the afternoon.

Barton hits the road again to take on league-foe Francis Marion on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., in Florence, S.C., while Erskine hosts Francis Marion Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
