Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Barton men’s soccer stays hot to start the season with 3-0 home victory over Erskine

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-0, 2-0) shut out Erskine (1-3, 1-2), 3-0, to remain unbeaten on the season in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Barton junior forward Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA) scored twice and senior midfielder Gabriel Slemer Lopes (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) added two assists as the Bulldogs put together a dominant performance to take the win over the Flying Fleet.

Barton sophomore forward Andrew Herman (Wake Forest, N.C.) opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he kicked the ball into the net right in front of the goal after corralling a loose ball.

Grove scored with just 22 seconds left before halftime after flicking the ball right into the goal off a header from Slemer Lopes.  Grove also rounded out the scoring at the 80:34 mark of the match off a corner kick from senior defender Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) and a quick pass in the box from sophomore defender Kai Thurston (Harleston, ENGLAND).  Both players were credited with the assist.

Barton junior goalkeeper Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) earned the shutout victory.  Erskine's Beckham Boomershine (Summerville, S.C.) suffered the loss in goal despite four stops on the day.

Barton hits the road to take on Francis Marion in a key league contest Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., in Florence, S.C., while Erskine hosts Young Harris on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
