Barton men’s soccer falls for the first time this year, 2-1 on the road to Francis Marion

Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (4-1, 2-1) suffered its first loss of the year to Francis Marion (4-1-2, 3-0), 2-1, Wednesday evening at Hartzler Field in a Conference Carolinas showdown.
 
The Patriots received goals by Mario Buelga (Gijon, SPAIN) and Juan Salazar (Palmira, COLOMBIA) with Buelga's match-winner coming just 4:04 into the match as the home team remained unbeaten on the season.
 
Camilo Salazar (Cali, COLOMBIA) was credited with the assist on the first score for Francis Marion, who increased its winning streak to four matches.
 
Barton sophomore defender Kai Thurston (Harleston, ENGLAND) found the back of the net for the one goal of the match for the Bulldogs at the 53:10 mark of the second half.  The goal was Thurston's second of the season while senior defender Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) was credited with his team-leading fourth assist on the year.
 
The Patriots held a 14-4 edge in shots taken with goalkeeper Alberto Argoneses Lablanca (Madrid, SPAIN) earned the win in goal.  Barton junior goalkeeper Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) suffered the loss while making a pair of stops on the night.
 
Barton remains on the road to take on No. 19 Young Harris on Saturday in a league showdown in Young Harris, Ga., at 4:30 p.m., while Francis Marion travels to Rome, Ga., play conference newcomer Shorter on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
