WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (2-0) opened the 2024 home portion of its schedule with an easy 6-1 victory over Shaw (1-3) Wednesday afternoon at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Luis Weber (Stuttgart, GERMANY) scored a pair of goals while sophomore defender Kai Thornton (Harleston, ENGLAND) and senior defender
Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) each added a pair of assists as the Bulldogs scored five straight goals to break a one-all tie and rolled to the victory.

Nate Drake (Walstonburg, N.C.) scored the match-winner in the 37th minute off a pass from Thornton.
The Bulldogs, which outscored the Bears by a 4-0 margin in the second half, held a 28-4 edge in shots taken while junior goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) played the first 30 minutes, made two saves and earned the victory.
For Shaw, Tanas Thorne (Bridgetown, BARBADOS) opened the scoring at the 15:18 mark while Carlos Granado (Caracas, VENEZUELA) made 14 saves but suffered the loss in goal.
Barton hits the road to take on North Greenville in its Conference Carolinas opener on Saturday beginning at 5:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C., while Shaw hosts Virginia Peninsula Community College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
