WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (5-9, 2-4) battled Emmanuel (12-4, 5-3) to the very end but fell to the Lions by a 20-17 score Saturday morning in a Conference Carolinas contest at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
The Lions' Paige Murphy (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA), the nation's leading scorer, totaled seven goals including the game-winner with 7:19 remaining in the fourth quarter as Emmanuel won its fourth straight contest. Murphy now has 100 goals on the season.
With the score tied at 16, the Lions scored four straight goals to take control and hand the Bulldogs their second straight setback.
Barton lost despite the play of senior attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.). Quinn totaled eight points – three goals and five assists – and sophomore midfielder
Taryn Ugliono (Hampstead, N.C.) added four scores but it wasn't enough for the home team. Quinn leads the squad in goals scored (33), assists (24) and total points (57).
Kristie Fisher (Thorton, Ontario, CANADA) also scored five times and Madison Duncan (Springboro, Ohio) played the fourth quarter and picked up the win for the Lions. Duncan made four saves on the day. Barton sophomore goalkeeper

Barton has a short rest before traveling to Mount Olive, N.C., to face league rival Mount Olive on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Emmanuel, meanwhile, plays Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C., on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
