WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (5-8, 3-2) put together a furious rally in the fourth period but an eight-goal deficit was too great to overcome in falling to North Greenville (8-6, 4-1), 12-9, Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium in a key Conference Carolinas contest.
The Crusaders' Yates Miller (Naples, Fla.) scored four goals as North Greenville raced to a 10-2 lead early in the third stanza and held on for the victory and remained in the hunt for the league regular season title.
Barton senior midfielder
Logan Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and sophomore midfielder
Nick Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) both scored twice as the Bulldogs cut an 11-5 deficit to 11-9 with just over three minutes left but the Crusaders' Cam Cam Webb (Charlotte, N.C.) closed the door with a score with 75 seconds remaining.  Webb finished with a pair of goals.
North Greenville held a slight edge in shots taken (43-42) while Gabe Nelson (Littleton, Colo.) earned the victory in goal after stopping nine shots.  Barton sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Stewart (Bel Air, Md.) suffered the loss after playing the first half and tallying eight saves.
Barton hits the road to take on Lees-McRae next Saturday, April 13, at 2:00 p.m., in Banner Elk, N.C., while North Greenville faces Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
