BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (6-8, 4-2) put an end to its two-game skid with a 21-3 win over Lees-McRae (3-7, 0-6) Saturday afternoon at Tate Field in a Conference Carolinas contest.
Barton was led by senior attacker
Jamie Kukucha (Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA) with five goals while senior midfielder
Logan Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) finished with six totals points - four goals and two assists - to lead the Bulldogs to the easy league victory.
Barton held a 6-0 lead at halftime then broke the contest open in the third period by outscoring Lees-McRae by a 9-to-1 margin. The Bulldogs held a decisive edge in shots taken (63-23) and ground balls (32-25) while sophomore goalkeeper
Drew Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) made a pair of saves and earned the win after playing the first half for the Bulldogs.
For Lees-McRae, Eddie Patterson (Central Valley, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal despite 16 saves on the day.
Barton hosts rival Mount Olive in its regular season finale in a league match-up on Friday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae hosts Emmanuel on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
