FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (8-10) downed Emmanuel (13-5) in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship, 16-13, Monday afternoon at Stephens Field.
With the victory, the fourth-seeded Bulldogs will take on top-seeded Mount Olive (14-3, 9-0) in the semifinals on Thursday at Noon in Mount Olive, N.C.
Barton senior attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) led the way with a team-high four goals and became the program's all-time leading scorer with 195 points and goal-scorer with 134.
Barton junior attacker
Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) totaled seven points – three goals and four assists – for the second straight game and junior attacker
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) added three scores as the Bulldogs were able to pull out the win after taking an 11-4 lead into intermission. Woodcock also scored the match-winner.
Emmanuel's Paige Murphy (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA), the nation's leading goal scorer, finished with six scores as the Lions rallied to tie the contest at 12-all but eventually fell. Barton also overcame a regular season home loss to Emmanuel: 20-16 on Saturday, April 6, in Wilson, N.C.
In goal, Barton sophomore
Avery Gandolf (Medina, Ohio), the current conference defensive player of the week, made 15 saves in the victory. Emmanuel's goalkeeper, Madison Duncan (Springboro, Ohio), made five stops but suffered the loss.
