Barton women’s lacrosse falls to top-seeded Mount Olive in the conference tournament semifinals

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (8-10) saw its 2024 season come to an end with a 20-10 setback to No. 25 Mount Olive (15-3) Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship at the Ray McDonald, Sr., Sports Complex.

The Trojans' Logan Hibbard (Rochester, N.Y.) led all scorers with six goals as Mount Olive jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and held at least a three-goal advantage the rest of the way to beat the Bulldogs for the second time this year at home.

Hibbard added three assists for nine total points while Jenna Mish (Annapolis, Md.) added three goals for the Trojans, who held advantages in both shots taken (40-15) and ground balls (31-21) and won their sixth straight contest.

Barton was led by junior midfielder Tamia Marshall (Wilmington, N.C.) and senior attacker Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) with four goals each in the losing effort.  Quinn, the school's all-time leading scorer, finished the season ranked first on the squad in goals (51), assists (29) and total points (80).  Marshall added four assists for a total of eight points as well.

In goal, Mount Olive's Jane Hobbs (Hampstead, N.C.) earned the win while sophomore Avery Gandolf (Medina, Ohio) made 11 saves in the losing effort for the visitors.  Barton also saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Mount Olive, the top seed in the tournament, will face third-seeded Young Harris (12-7) in the finals Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  The Mountain Lions defeated second-seeded Belmont Abbey (11-7) in their semifinal contest by a 14-10 score.
