WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (11-10, 5-6) fell to rival Mount Olive (14-8, 7-4), 3-0, on Senior Night Wednesday in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Trojans defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19 to snap a five-match losing streak.
Mount Olive was led by Hayden Frear (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with 12 kills while Jackson Lahey (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added 38 assists and nine digs as the Trojans held a 44-29 edge in kills and limited the Bulldogs to a 0.075 hitting percentage in the setback.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 13 kills and 11 digs for a double-double while junior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) also tallied a double-double – 22 assists and 10 digs – in the losing effort.
In addition to Johnston, senior outside hitter
John Coffey (Plain City, Ohio) and senior middle blocker
Thomas Fanic (Narbonne, FRANCE) were honored prior to the contest.
Barton next competes on Friday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m., against Erskine in Due West, S.C., in a league match while Mount Olive takes on Emmanuel in Franklin Springs, Ga., on Friday, April 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
