WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-6) made it two victories in a row with a 20-4 win over Virginia State (4-4) Wednesday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Barton junior attackers
Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) and
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) both scored four goals as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 8-0 advantage after one quarter of play and scored the first 10 games of the contest on their way to the easy victory.
Woodcock added a pair of assists for six total points as the players for the Bulldogs scored at least twice on the day. The Bulldogs have scored 44 goals in their last two contests.
Barton held decisive advantages in both shots taken (40-9) and ground balls (33-17) while junior
Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) earned the victory in goal after making four saves. Virginia State's goalkeeper, Callie Thompson (Highland, Md.), suffered the loss despite eight stops on the afternoon.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Young Harris, Ga., to take on Young Harris beginning at Noon while Virginia State hosts Davis & Elkins on Saturday starting at Noon.
