Barton women’s lacrosse sets single-game scoring mark with 24-11 home victory over Converse

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-1) set a new single-game scoring mark with a 24-11 home victory over Converse (5-4, 1-2) Saturday evening at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

Barton junior attackers Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) and Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) scored five and four goals, respectively, while junior attacker Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) dished out four assists as the Bulldogs snapped a six-match losing streak.

Barton jumped out to an 8-2 lead after one period of play and held off several runs by Converse to capture the league victory.

Converse's Gencie Coan (Greenville, S.C.) scored a team-high three times as the visitors cut the lead to four on two occasions – 14-10 and 15-11 – late in the third period but the Bulldogs rolled off the final nine goals of the contest.

Barton held decisive advantages in shots taken (39-20) and ground balls (27-14) while junior goalkeeper Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) made six saves while earning the win in goal.  Converse's Reagan Collins (Spartanburg, S.C.) suffered the loss in goal despite eight saves on the night.

Barton hosts Virginia State on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., while Converse returns home to take on Lander on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
