WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (20-5, 5-5) opened a Conference Carolinas home weekend series with Francis Marion (13-10, 6-4) by routing the Patriots by a 15-3 score Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wisc.) hit his team-tying third home run of the season while junior catcher
Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) hit a bases-clearing double in a five-running seventh as the Bulldogs improved to 18-1 at home this year.
The Bulldogs, holding a 6-3 lead in the middle of the seventh inning, scored nine runs in the final two frames to break the contest open. Barton was able to take advantage of 11 walks drawn and six hit batters by Francis Marion's pitchers .

Steven Maiers (Swedesboro, N.J.) improved to 3-0 this season after earning the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings while striking out a pair of batters. Francis Marion's Chas DeBruhl (Kershaw, S.C.) (3-2) was tagged with the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the league weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday at Noon at Nixon Field.
