Barton women’s lacrosse falls in Conference Carolinas opener on the road to Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (2-6, 0-1) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 19-9 setback to Belmont Abbey (6-4, 4-0) Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Crusaders' Hailey Carroll (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored a game-high four goals as Belmont Abbey scored the final nine goals of the match to break open a close contest.

Three players for the Bulldogs – junior attackers Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.) and Avery Woodcock (Wilmington, N.C.) and senior midfielder MacKenzie Camp (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) – scored twice but the Bulldogs suffered their sixth straight loss.  Barton closed the margin to 10-9 with just over 12 minutes left in the third stanza but were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Belmont Abbey, which ended the contest on a 9-0 run, also received three scores from Emma Pherson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Trinity Cassidy (Snellville, Ga.) as the home team remained unbeaten in league play.

Belmont Abbey's Summer Eddinger (Fallston, Md.) earned the victory in goal after stopping 11 shots.  The Crusaders also held a 38-23 edge in shots taken in the win as well.  Barton junior goalkeeper Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) made seven saves but suffered the loss.

Barton will look to bounce back at home on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Converse in a league match at Truist Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan Saturday at Noon.
