Barton baseball outlasts St. Michael’s, 8-7, in 10 innings Wednesday afternoon at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (19-5) pulled out an 8-7 victory over Saint Michael's (Vermont) (1-9) in 10 innings Wednesday afternoon at Fleming Stadium.

Barton junior catcher Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) scored on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the tenth inning courtesy of sophomore second baseman Salvatore Laimo (Philadelphia, Pa.) as the Bulldogs improved to 17-1 at home this season.

Laimo and junior shortstop Luis Sauri (Buena, N.J.) both drove in two runs for the Bulldogs, who won their second straight contest.

The Purple Knights' Max Kolifrath (Millbury, Mass.) finished with two hits and three runs batted in as St. Michael's rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth to force extra innings despite the loss.

On the mound, Barton junior Ryan Gordon (York, Pa.) (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the victory while Jacek Krol (Tolland, Conn.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., at home against Francis Marion while St. Michael's plays Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, N.C., tomorrow starting at 4:00 p.m.
