WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (8-5, 3-4) swept King (2-13, 2-5), 3-0, in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs swept the Tornado by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 26-24 and avenged an earlier regular season loss to King in February.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 10 kills while junior outside hitter
Jack Sandahl (Gloucester, Va.) added eight kills as the Bulldogs finished with 10 blocks as a team in the victory.
Barton junior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) totaled 29 assists for the home team as well.
King lost despite 12 and 11 kills from A.J. Drooker (Chesterfield, Va.) and Warren Davis (Mansfield, Texas), respectively, and 36 assists from Aiden Olsen (Las Vegas, Nev.). The Tornado was hurt, however, by 13 service aces.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas matches on Saturday afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m., Barton hosts Lees-McRae while King faces Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C.
