WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (2-0) opened the 2024 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Lake Erie (0-2), 9-3 and 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Barton took control with a six-run first inning highlighted by freshman outfielder 
Gavin Gilmore's (Eastampton, N.J.) two-run single as the Bulldogs took advantage of 10 hits batters off of the arms of the Storm's pitchers to take the win.

Matthew Rivera (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) added three hits and a pair of RBI as well while graduate student pitcher 
A.J. Campbell (Absecon, N.J.) (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings to end the contest for the Bulldogs.  Campbell allowed just one hit while striking out five batters.
Lake Erie's Jacob Mote (Bloomington, Ill.) hit a three-run home run while Alex Caudill (Bellefontaine, Ohio) (0-1) suffered the loss for the visitors.

Connor Patterson (Randleman, N.C.) (1-0) earned the win after pitching five scoreless innings as well to go along with eight strikeouts as the Bulldogs completed the doubleheader sweep.
The Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth frame thanks to an RBI single from junior outfielder 
Evan Harding (Clayton, N.C.) and a two-run hit from junior shortstop 
Luis Sauri (Buena, N.J.) and the home team stayed ahead the rest of the way.  Sauri finished with a pair of hits in the contest.
Lake Erie's Robert Helt (Willougby, Ohio) (0-1) was tagged with the setback.
Barton and Lake Erie wrap up the weekend series at Nixon Field with a doubleheader beginning on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
