WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (7-5, 2-4) fell to Erskine (8-5, 4-2) in a five-setter match, 3-2, in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Flying Fleet defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25 and 15-12.
Erskine was led by Kacper Rybarczyk (Warsaw, POLAND) with a match-high 23 kills while Pablo Zamar (Jujuy, ARGENTINA) added 21 kills as the Flying Fleet was able to hold on after taking a two-set lead early in the contest.
Barton was paced by senior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 14 kills and 14 digs for a double-double and junior outside hitter
Jack Sandahl (Gloucester, Va.) with a dozen kills in the losing effort.
Erskine, which held a 72-49 edge in kills, also received a 62-assist, nine-dig performance from Francisco Pomar (Ponce, PUERTO RICO). The Flying Fleet also survived despite 17 service errors.

Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) also tallied a double-double – 40 assists and 10 digs – in the setback. The Bulldogs were limited to a .179 hitting percentage for the contest.
Barton hosts King in a league contest on Friday, March 1, beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Erskine travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to face Emmanuel on Tuesday starting at 7:00 p.m.
