WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (7-4, 2-3) pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) (5-9, 2-3), 3-2, in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs, who rallied from two sets down and a 24-17 deficit in the third set, outlasted the Lions by scores of 20-25, 20-25, 26-24, 26-24 and 15-8.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with 17 kills while junior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 39 assists and nine digs as the Bulldogs stiffened defensively and totaled 17 blocks which kept the Lions at bay.
Emmanuel lost despite holding a 70-48 edge in kills. The Lions were paced by Eli Zdonek (Greenville, S.C.) and Aidan Feeney (Port Richet, Fla.) with 22 and 18 kills, respectively, in the losing effort. Abdallah Roshdy (Minya, EGYPT) added 58 assists but the Lions were also hurt by 24 service errors.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas matches on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Barton hosts Erskine while Emmanuel travels to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on Mount Olive.
