Game Recap: Baseball |

Barton baseball takes two from Bloomsburg Saturday at home to remain unbeaten

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (9-0) kept its perfect record intact with a doubleheader sweep of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (0-2), 13-3 and 11-9, Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Game One – Barton 13, Bloomsburg 3 (seven innings)
The Bulldogs broke a three-all tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and plated five more runs in the seventh inning to run-rule the Huskies.

Barton junior catcher Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) drove in three runs while junior shortstop Luis Sauri (Buena, N.J.) added three runs scored, a pair of hits and two runs batted in as the Bulldogs took advantage of four Huskies' errors to take the win.

Barton graduate student A.J. Campbell (Absecon, N.J.) improved to 2-0 on the season after registering the final seven outs while Owen Wilhide (York, Pa.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Bloomsburg.  The Huskies lost despite home runs from Brady Ebbert (Etters, Pa.) and Wyatt Metzger (Selinsgrove, Pa.).

Game Two – Barton 11, Bloomsburg 9
Barton senior Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wisc.) (2-0) struck out 12 batters in six innings of work to earn the win and senior first baseman John McNamee (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit a bases-clearing double as part of a five-run fourth inning as the Bulldogs held on for the victory.

McNamee finished with four RBI and junior outfielder Evan Harding (Clayton, N.C.) hit a solo home run in the triumph for Barton.

Bloomsburg, who closed the game to two runs after plating four in the ninth frame, received a three-run home run from Dansby Keenan (Cleveland Heights, Ohio).  The Huskies' Cole Coolbaugh (Wyoming, Pa.) (0-1) suffered the loss.

The two teams wrap up the weekend series with a 1:00 p.m., contest on Sunday afternoon.
