HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-2) earned its first victory of the season with a 9-8 triumph over Coker (1-2) Tuesday afternoon at the Cobras Athletic Complex.

Matt Calleri (Holly Springs, N.C.) and senior midfielder
Logan Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) – scored twice as Barton was able to hold on for the victory after jumping out to a 6-1 lead late in the second quarter.
Coker was led by Elijah Utz (Macedon, N.Y.) with three scores and the Cobras scored three straight goals in the final six-plus minutes including a score with 24 seconds left but the Bulldogs escaped with the win.
The Cobras held advantages in both shots taken (39-34) and ground balls (28-19) despite the loss. Barton sophomore goalkeeper
Drew Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) earned the victory after playing into the third quarter and stopping nine shots while Coker's Ethan Hofert (Mooresville, N.C.) suffered the loss despite 15 saves.
Barton remains on the road to take on Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C., on Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Coker plays North Greenville in Tigerville, N.C., on Saturday at Noon.
