CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (1-0) won its 2024 season opener by a 16-9 score over Charleston (0-1) Saturday afternoon at the Welch Athletic Complex.

With the score deadlocked at four with just over a minute left in the opening session, Martin scored the first two of six straight goals as the visitors took control from there. Martin added a pair of assists to lead the visitors with five points on the day.
For Charleston, Madison Partridge (Darlington, Md.) led the way with a game-high four goals but the Golden Eagles were hurt by 21 turnovers in the contest. In goal, Barton junior
Savannah Graves (Calvert County, Md.) earned the victory after making 10 saves while Charleston's Megan Liston (Pickerington, Ohio) also stopped 10 shots but suffered the loss.
Both team finished with 26 shots while the Bulldogs held a 24-22 edge in ground balls.
Barton hosts Tiffin (Ohio) in its season opener on Saturday, February 17, at Noon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium while Charleston hosts Lake Erie Friday at Noon.
