WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-15, 6-7) put up a furious rally but the deficit was too great to overcome in a 76-67 setback to Southern Wesleyan (9-14, 6-7) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
Southern Wesleyan's Asia Pearly (Greensboro, N.C.) came off the bench to lead the squad with 17 points as the visitors jumped out to a 20-2 advantage to start the contest and led by as many as 24 points – 43-19 with 1:17 remaining in the second quarter – and held on for the victory.

Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) led all scorers with 25 points as the Bulldogs cut the lead to five points at 70-65 with just under three minutes left on a trey by Walker but couldn't get any closer. Southern Wesleyan responded with six straight points to put the contest out of reach.

Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) and sophomore forward
Erial Owens (Powder Springs, Ga.) added 11 points each off the bench but the Bulldogs shot just 32 percent (22-of-69) from the floor in suffering its second straight setback.
Barton remains at home to take on UNC Pembroke in a league contest Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Young Harris Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
