Barton men’s basketball outscored in road league contest, 99-89 to Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-5, 1-2) lost to Chowan (4-4, 1-1), 99-89, Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas game at the Hawks Athletic Center and Bob Burke Court.

The Hawks were led by Daylen Askew (Ahoskie, N.C.) and Damerius Summers (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) with a combined 46 points as the home team shot 51 percent (40-of-78) in the victory.  Askew led all scorers with 24 points while Summers added 22 points on 11-of-18 shooting in the win.

Barton senior guard Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) finished with a team-high 20 points and hit six three-pointers while senior guard Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) added 19 points but the Bulldogs suffered their fourth consecutive setback.

With the score tied at 59 with just under 14 minutes remaining in the contest, the Hawks reeled off eight straight points to take the lead for good capped off by a trey from Askew.  Chowan held a 51-37 edge in rebounding and led by as many as 18 points late in the contest:  90-72 with under four minutes remaining.

Barton hosts Francis Marion in a Conference Carolinas game on Saturday, December 14, at 4:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium while Chowan hosts Mount Olive next Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
