ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-4) was dealt an 87-80 loss to Elizabeth City State (5-2) Wednesday evening at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Vikings' Jaquantae Harris (Fayetteville, N.C.) led all scorers with 21 points and Dericko Williams (Kinston, N.C.) added a big-time double-double – 18 points and 19 rebounds – as Elizabeth City State was able to hold for the win after a late surge by the Bulldogs.

The Vikings held a 32-29 advantage at halftime and pushed their lead to as many as 14 points – 82-68 with 1:53 remaining – on a lay-up by Harris and the home team survived a late push by Bulldogs in the victory.

Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) added 12 points for the visitors, who cut the margin to six points with 44 seconds left but time ran out. The Bulldogs were also hurt by their performance from the charity stripe, hitting just 16-of-28 shots (57 percent).
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan at 4:00 p.m., while Elizabeth City State faces Shaw in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., as well.
