Barton football falls to Limestone, 40-26, in road finale

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton football team (3-7, 2-6) suffered a 40-26 defeat to Limestone (7-3, 6-2) Saturday afternoon in the Bulldogs' road finale in a South Atlantic Conference Piedmont Division contest at Saints Field.

Limestone quarterback Dustin Noller (Rock Hill, S.C.) passed for 310 yards and three touchdowns as the Saints scored the final 17 points of the contest and found the end zone twice late in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

The Saints' Kevin Lalin (Spring Lake, N.C.) scored the game-winning touchdown from four yards out with 5:21 remaining and finished the game with 161 yards rushing and two scores in the win.  Limestone held a 476-386 edge in total yards while D.J. Black (Inman, S.C.) caught touchdown passes of 60 and 36 yards, respectively, as the Saints remained in second place in divisional play.

Barton lost despite the play of freshman running back Jackson Parrish (Graham, N.C.), who rushed for 154 yards and four touchdowns.  Parrish has rushed for seven touchdowns in the past two games.  Barton freshman quarterback Al Lee (Reidsville, N.C.), in his second career start, passed for 165 yards in the setback.

Parrish's fourth touchdown of the day from four yards out gave the Bulldogs a 26-23 advantage with 11:59 left in the contest but Alonzo Johnson (Fredericksburg, Va.) returned a blocked extra point for two points the other way to start the 17-0 run for the Saints.

Barton returns home to face UVA Wise in the regular season finale for Senior Night next Saturday at 6:00 p.m., in a league game at Truist Stadium while is scheduled to host Carson-Newman next Saturday, November 16, at Noon as well.
