Barton football’s rally falls short to UVA Wise, 24-21, in regular season finale

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team (3-8) came up short to UVA Wise (4-6), 24-21, on Senior Night and the regular season finale in a South Atlantic Conference battle Saturday evening at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

Trailing by a 24-7 score entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs scored a pair of touchdowns to cut the deficit to three points and a last-ditch drive to tie the contest ended when a 29-yard field goal attempt on the last play of the game hooked left.

The Cavaliers' Cooper Wick (Chattanooga, Tenn.) passed for 223 yards and a touchdown while Dejauvis Dozier (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) added a pair of rushing touchdowns as the visitors scored touchdowns on three straight drives to end the second quarter for a 21-7 advantage at intermission and were able to hold on for the win.

Barton held a 410-299 edge in total yards while senior running back Raekwon Batts (Wilson N.C.) scored a pair of rushing touchdowns as well in the losing effort.  Barton senior wide receiver Jayden Flood-Brown (Newport News, Va.) added six catches for 101 yards and the home team held the ball for over 38 minutes despite the setback.

Barton is in its final year as an Associate Member of the South Atlantic Conference as Conference Carolinas begins intercollegiate football in 2025.
