Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Barton men’s basketball stunned in overtime by Erskine, 101-93, in home conference play

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-3, 1-1) couldn't hold an eight-point lead with under two minutes remaining in the second half and lost in overtime to Erskine (3-6, 1-2), 101-93, in a Conference Carolinas contest inside Wilson Gymnasium.

The Flying Fleet's Grant Lovette (Fort Mill, S.C.) led all scorers with 35 points and scored the final eight points of the second half including a pair of free throws with four seconds left to force overtime and eventually lift the visitors to the improbable victory.

Erskine then reeled off seven straight points in the extra frame including the game-winning field goal by Christian Monroe (Mooresville, N.C.) to break an 87-all tie with 2:28 left in overtime.  Monroe finished with 24 points in the contest.

Barton, which held an 84-76 lead with 1:42 left in the second half, was led by senior guard Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) with 17 points on five treys while sophomore guard Sean Quick-Streeter (Columbia, S.C.) added 14 points off the bench in the losing effort.

The Flying Fleet hit 38-of-75 field goal attempts (51 percent) in the victory as well.

Barton hits the road to take on Elizabeth City State on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m., in Elizabeth City, N.C., while Erskine travels to Young Harris, Ga., to play Young Harris next Saturday, December 7, at 4:00 p.m., in league action.
