WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (4-1) made it four victories in a row with a 100-86 win over Virginia State (1-3) Wednesday evening in a non-league affair at Wilson Gymnasium.

Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with five treys while senior guard
Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) neared a triple-double – 19 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds – as the Bulldogs shot 53 percent (34-for-64) from the floor and reached triple digits for the second time this season.
The Bulldogs raced to a 46-34 advantage at halftime and pushed their lead to as many as 20 points – 77-57 with just under nine minutes remaining – in the victory.

Jordan Johnson (Bowie, Md.) added 18 points and hit four three-pointers as well in the victory. Virginia State's Jacob Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the visitors with 15 points but the Trojans hit just five-of-22 (23 percent) three-point attempts in the setback.
Barton is also off to its best start since the 2018-19 campaign when the Bulldogs won five of their first six contests on the year.
Barton opens Conference Carolinas play on Saturday at home against Southern Wesleyan beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Virginia State hosts Lander on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., as well.
