Barton women’s soccer closes home season with 2-1 win over Chowan

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-6-5, 2-5-4) finished up the home portion of its regular season in style with a 2-1 win over Chowan (4-9-3, 2-7-3) Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

Barton senior defender Hannah Johnson (Oneonta, N.Y.) scored both goals for the Bulldogs – both on free kicks – as the Bulldogs avenged an earlier regular season loss to the Hawks:  a 3-1 setback on Saturday, October 12, in Murfreesboro, N.C.  Johnson has three goals in the last two matches for the Bulldogs.

Johnson tied the score at one in the 19th minute before her second free kick from over 30 yards out at the 69:48 mark of the contest won the match for the home team.  Barton also picked up its first victory since a 3-0 triumph over Erskine on Saturday, September 21, at Truist Stadium.

Chowan's Mya Turner (London, ENGLAND) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Abigail Simon (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) just 20 seconds before Johnson's first goal.

Barton senior goalkeeper Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) earned the victory in goal after stopping five shots on the day while Chowan's goalkeeper, Kirsten Peterson (Medway, Mass.), suffered the loss despite three saves.

Barton will make up its match with Lees-McRae in a league affair on Monday, November 4, at 3:00 p.m., at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, N.C.

Chowan will now turn its attention to the 2024 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship which begins on Thursday, November 7, with the First Round at the higher seeds.  The pairings will be announced this weekend by the league office.
