BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (5-7-4, 2-6-4) suffered a 2-0 loss to Lees-McRae (10-2-3, 9-0-3) Monday afternoon in the regular season finale at Bryan Park.
The two teams were playing a make-up game after the original contest scheduled a month ago in Banner Elk, N.C., was called off due to Hurricane Helene.
The Bobcats, who went unbeaten in league play this year, received goals from Abbey Brosnihan (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Morgan Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and stayed unbeaten in its last 12 contests.
Lees-McRae held a 13-8 edge in shots taken while Chiara Coppin (Monroe, N.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal after making four saves on the day. Barton senior goalkeeper
Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) made three stops but suffered the loss.
Barton will be the ninth seed in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship and will face fourth-seeded Belmont Abbey (10-3-3) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., in the opening round in Belmont, N.C. Lees-McRae is the top seed in the tournament and will play in the semifinals back at Bryan Park on Friday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m.
