YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-10, 0-5) suffered a 3-1 loss to Young Harris (1-6, 1-3) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at The Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-23 and picked up their first victory of the year.
Young Harris showed good offensive balance on the night with at least four players with 11 or more kills led by Abby Schirm (Lilburn, Ga.) with 14 kills while Lyza Thigpen (Flowery Branch, Ga.) added 40 assists and 16 digs in the close victory.
Barton senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led all players with 17 kills and freshman outside hitter
Bailey McIntyre (Mooresville, N.C.) tallied a double-double as well – 10 kills and 12 digs – in the setback.
Senior libero
Lilly Meyer (Greencastle, Ind.) added a match-high six service aces to go along with 23 digs despite the loss for the visitors.
Barton faces Emmanuel in a league match on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga., while Young Harris hosts Chowan on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
