MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (7-3-2, 4-3-2) came through with a 3-2 victory over rival Mount Olive (4-5-4, 3-3-4) Tuesday night in a key Conference Carolinas match at Amon Field.
Three players scored for the Bulldogs – all headers by sophomore defender
Toby Brown (Brighton, UNITED KINGDOM), junior defender
Yuki Minari (Komaki, JAPAN) and junior forward
Blake Grove (Newstead, AUSTRALIA), respectively – as Barton swept the season series from Mount Olive.
Mount Olive tried to rally from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 with goals from Greg Boko (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Rami Bayoumi (Holly Springs, N.C.) in the second half but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the victory.
Brown and Minari scored their first goals of the year while junior goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) made seven saves for the visitors. Mount Olive held a 17-12 edge in shots taken while Axel Engren (Sundsvall, SWEDEN) suffered the loss in goal.
Barton hosts Chowan in a conference match and the regular season finale on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex while Mount Olive faces Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m.
