WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (7-4-2, 4-4-2) suffered a 3-1 setback to Chowan (8-4-3, 7-2-2) Saturday night at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex in a Conference Carolinas contest and the regular season finale.
The Hawks opened the scoring just 11:33 into the match when Robbie Delghan (Bolton, ENGLAND) found the back off the net while Junior Smith (Manchester, ENGLAND) and Matty Doyle (Knottingley, ENGLAND) rounded out the scoring for the visitors, who swept the season series from the Bulldogs.
Barton's lone goal came at the 27:56 mark of the first half when senior defender
Tre Day (Yorktown, Pa.) chipped in a shot off a deflection off a corner kick. Senior defender
Jeremy Alvarez (Sims, N.C.) was credited with his team-leading eighth assist of the season.
Chowan held an 8-3 edge in shots taken while Chase Jansen (Palm Bay, Fla.) earned the victory in goal after recording a save. Barton junior goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) stopped two shots but suffered the loss.
Barton and Chowan will next compete in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship beginning on Thursday, November 7, with the First Round. The league office will announce the pairing on Monday night.
