NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Barton football team (2-6, 1-5) did find the scoreboard for the first time in three contests but eventually fell to Newberry (3-4, 3-2), 41-25, in a South Atlantic Conference Piedmont Division contest Saturday afternoon at Setzler Field.
The Wolves reeled off 20 straight points in the second quarter to take control and shook off a 19-play, 87-yard opening touchdown drive by the Bulldogs which consumed 11 minutes and 38 seconds.
Newberry won over Barton thanks to big plays including a 50-yard touchdown catch from Rico Dorsey, Jr., (Columbia, S.C.) and a 79-yard touchdown run from Quez Spells (Summerville, S.C.) late in the third quarter.
Barton held the ball for close to 41 of the possible 60 minutes of the game and ran twice as many plays (83-40) as Newberry despite the loss.

Jayden Flood-Brown (Newport News, Va.) opened the scoring by tossing a 19-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman quarterback
Nazir Garrett (Henderson, N.C.) late in the first stanza then later caught a 19-yard touchdown pass himself in the third quarter.
Barton also rushed from 204 yards in the contest – led by freshman running back
Jackson Parrish (Graham, N.C.) with 102 yards – while freshman linebacker
E'Lla Boykin (Mount Olive, N.C.) paced the defense with nine takedowns.
Barton hosts Catawba for Homecoming at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium next Saturday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m., while Newberry hosts Limestone next Saturday in a league contest at 4:00 p.m.
