WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (6-3-1, 3-3-1) fell to Francis Marion (6-4-5, 5-2-2) by a 1-0 score Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest Wednesday night at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.
The Patriots scored the lone goal of the match in the 72nd minute when Mario Buelga (Gijon, SPAIN) cleared up a ball right in front of the net after a couple of shots ricocheted around and kicked it in. Buelga now has five goals on the year.
Francis Marion, which swept the season series from Barton, held a 19-8 edge in shots taken in the victory and snapped a six-match winless streak.
In goal, the Patriots' Ian Milla (Geiselwind, GERMANY) earned the shutout victory while Barton junior goalkeeper
Steingrimur Gunnarsson (Grenivik, ICELAND) suffered the loss despite allowing one goal and making six saves on the evening.
Barton hosts Converse for Senior Day on Saturday, October 26, at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., in a conference contest while Francis Marion takes on Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., on Saturday starting at 7:00 p.m.
