WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (6-12) ran its winning streak to five matches with a pair of victories over Emory & Henry (3-1) and Elizabeth City State (3-2) on Saturday at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton 3, Emory & Henry 1
The Bulldogs won over the Wasps by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-22 and were spearheaded by the performance of senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.).
Sleight tallied a monster double-double – 20 kills and 17 digs – while senior outside hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, NC.) also reached double figures in kills – 13 – to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
The Wasps were paced by Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) and Taylor Kelly (Hickory, N.C.) with eight kills each but Emory & Henry hit just 0.071 for the contest in the setback.
Barton 3, Elizabeth City State 2
The Bulldogs won the fourth and fifth sets to come back and beat the Vikings by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 25-22 and 15-10.
Sleight had another double-double – 14 kills and 19 digs – while sophomore middle blocker
Madeline Hope (Mount Holly, N.C.) and senior right side hitter
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) added nine kills each in the victory.
Elizabeth City State's Jada Rouse (Rock Hill, S.C.) led all players with 19 kills in addition to 22 digs despite the setback.
Barton next travels to Rome, Ga., to take on Shorter in a Conference Carolinas match on Saturday, October 26, at 2:00 p.m.
