WILSON, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team (6-1, 4-1) handed Barton (2-5, 1-4) its second consecutive shutout, 20-0, in a South Atlantic Conference Piedmont Divisional game Saturday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
The Bears, ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division II, were led by Alex Boyd (LaGrange, Ga.) with a pair of rushing touchdowns while totaling 95 of the team's 251 yards rushing in the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne held a 415-121 advantage in total yards and did not punt the entire contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne placekicker Jake Brown (Indian Trail, N.C.) added a pair of field goals as the Bears moved into a first-place tie in the SAC Piedmont Division standings with Limestone.
Barton redshirt freshman running back
Dakauri Davis (Baltimore, Md.) finished with 76 yards rushing to lead the Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, senior defensive back
Dereck Barringer (Rockingham, N.C.) and junior defensive back
Ja'Correy Bible (San Antonio, Texas) both had a game-high 15 takedowns in the losing effort for Barton.
Barton hits the road to take on Newberry in a league affair next Saturday, October 26, at 4:00 p.m., in Newberry, S.C., while Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Limestone next Saturday for Homecoming starting at 1:00 p.m.
