Barton women’s soccer comes up short to Chowan, 3-1 on the road

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (4-4-2, 1-3-1) fell to Chowan (4-6-1, 2-4-1) by a 3-1 score Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Hawks Athletic Center.

The Hawks took advantage of a failed clear and found the back of the net just 16:11 into the match to open the scoring.  Chowan's Laura Hulme (Huddersfield, ENGLAND) and Abigail Simon (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) added goals prior to intermission just over eight minutes apart later in the first half to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.

Barton graduate student forward Lexis Goldberg (Sanford, N.C.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 67th minute to help the Bulldogs avoid the shutout.

Chowan held a 20-16 advantage in shots taken while Kirsten Peterson (Medway, Mass.) earned the victory in goal after stopping two shots while senior goalkeeper Taylor Primack (Lindenhurst, Ill.) suffered the loss for Barton.  Primack made three saves on the afternoon.

Barton remains on the road to face Young Harris in a league match Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., in Young Harris, Ga., while Chowan plays Francis Marion on Wednesday in Florence, S.C., starting at 4:30 p.m.
