WILSON, N.C – The Barton women's volleyball team (2-12, 1-7) finally got back on the winning side with a 3-1 victory over Lees-McRae (9-4, 1-1) in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs prevailed over the Bobcats by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15 and snapped a nine-match losing streak in the process.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) with 16 kills while senior right side hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, N.C.) also reached double figures in kills (10) in the victory. Barton senior setter
Hailey Strey (Cape Coral, Fla.) added 25 assists to go along with nine digs to near a double-double in the triumph.
The Bobcats were led by Sydney Stigler (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 12 kills and 11 digs but the Bobcats were hurt by 17 service errors.
Barton, which picked up its first home victory of the year as well, celebrated breast cancer awareness with its annual Pink Night.
Barton remains at home to take on King in a league contest Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae faces Mount Olive on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C.
