WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (5-8, 2-1) took its first Conference Carolinas loss of the year to Chowan (8-5, 2-2), 89-73, Wednesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Hawks, winners of three consecutive contests, were led by Daylan Askew (Ahoskie, N.C.) and Preston Le Gassick (Queensland, AUSTRALIA) with a combined 52 points in the triumph. Askew finished with 27 points in addition to five treys while RJ Wilson (Raleigh, N.C.) added 25 points and went 10-of-11 from the charity stripe in the win.

Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) hit for a team-high 26 points and senior guard
Reese McDonald (Raleigh, N.C.) added 18 points despite the loss.
The Hawks connected 10 of their 12 treys before halftime as Chowan raced to a 49-33 advantage at intermission and held off a few Bulldog rallies to take the win. Chowan also held a 46-33 advantage on the boards and overcame 23 turnovers in the victory.

Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) added 13 points and hit four three-pointers but the Bulldogs finished just seven-of-31 (23 percent) from behind the three-point line.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas games on Saturday, January 6, beginning at 2:00 p.m., Barton travels to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville while Chowan faces Erskine in Due West, S.C.
