PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (4-12, 3-4) was dealt a 76-45 loss to UNC Pembroke (11-5, 6-1) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Braves, who are tied for first place at the top of the East Division standings with UNC Pembroke, put four players in double figures including a team-high 17 points from Kalaya Hall (Beulaville, N.C.) as the home squad held a 52-33 edge on the boards in the win.
Barton sophomore forward
Erial Owens (Powder Springs, Ga.) led all scorers with 18 points but was the lone player to reach double figures for the Bulldogs.
UNC Pembroke held a 28-24 advantage at intermission before taking control in the third stanza by outscoring Barton by a 27-7 margin in the third period to break the contest open. Zaria Clark (Stanley, N.C.) notched a double-double for the Braves – 15 points and 12 rebounds – in the triumph.
Barton also hit just two of 19 three-point attempts in suffering its third straight setback.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas contests on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., Barton returns home to face King at Wilson Gymnasium while UNC Pembroke hosts Lees-McRae.
