Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Barton men’s basketball comes up short on the road to league-leading UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (6-11, 3-4) lost to first-place UNC Pembroke (13-3, 7-0), 82-67, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The Braves, winners of 11 straight games, were paced by Josh Berenbaum (St. Petersburg, Fla.) with a team-high 17 points and was one of four players to reach double figures for UNC Pembroke.  The home team also held a 45-29 edge in rebounding and shot 58 percent (33-of-57) from the field in the triumph.

Barton also had four players reach double figures including a team-high 15 points from senior guard Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) and hit 10 treys on the evening but it wasn't enough to overcome UNC Pembroke.  The Braves also remain alone atop the league's East Division's standings.

UNC Pembroke led by as many as 23 points in the second half – 64-41 with 12:18 left – and forced Barton into 17 turnovers.  Senior forward Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.) added 14 points in the losing effort for the Bulldogs.

Barton returns home to take on King in a Conference Carolinas Saturday at Wilson Gymnasium while UNC Pembroke remains at home to face Lees-McRae.  Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
