Barton women’s soccer downs King, 3-1, on Senior Day behind corner kicks

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (2-3-2, 2-2-1) won on Senior Day over King (3-5-1, 2-2), 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.

The Bulldogs scored all three of their goals off corner kicks.  Barton senior midfielder Maddie Underwood (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied a goal and assisted on the match-winner as the Bulldogs rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three second-half scores in the triumph.

Barton sophomore midfielder Iris Gissuradottir (Selfoss, ICELAND) tied the score at one in the 58th minute when she found the back of the net off a loose ball in the box off a corner kick before freshman midfielder Lilly Moss (Prairieville, La.) headed the ball into the net off a corner from Underwood at the 66:33 mark.

Underwood then rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute when her own corner kick went into the net.  The Bulldogs held a 25-7 edge in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) earned the win after stopping a pair of shots.  King's Kristal Garcia (Villalba, PUERTO RICO) suffered the loss in goal despite four saves.

The Tornado scored 24:52 into the match when Victoria Thauer (Grand Island, N.Y.) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick.

Barton looks to keep the momentum going on Tuesday when the Bulldogs host Mount Olive in a league match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while King hosts Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
