PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-3-2, 1-2-1) fell to UNC Pembroke (4-3-1, 3-1-1) by an 8-1 score Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
Holding a 2-1 edge at intermission, the Braves broke it open with six goals after halftime. The Braves' Anna Grossheim (Garner, N.C.) scored twice including the match-winner just 7:49 into the contest.
Seven different players scored for UNC Pembroke, who held a 31-14 edge in shots taken in the victory.
Barton senior forward
Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) was the lone player to find the back of the net for the Bulldogs in the 21st minute of action. Krul now has a team-leading three goals on the year.
In goal, the Braves' Chiara Coppin (Monroe, N.C.) was credited with the victory after stopping six shots on the night while Barton senior
Cara Davis (Angier, N.C.) suffered the loss despite six saves for the visitors.
Barton looks to bounce back Saturday on Senior Day when the Bulldogs host King at Truist Stadium in a league contest beginning at 1:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke takes on Chowan Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in Murfreesboro, N.C.
