WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (4-8, 0-4) fell in a five-set thriller to UNC Pembroke (8-7, 3-2), 3-2, Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas match.
The Braves prevailed over the Bulldogs by scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 21-25 and 15-7 on their way to their second straight victory.
UNC Pembroke was led by Vanja Przulj (Belgrade, SERBIA) with a match-high 26 kills to go along with 12 digs while Katie Pressley (Indian Trail, N.C.) added 52 assists in the victory.
Barton was paced by senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with her sixth double-double on the season – 17 kills and 13 digs – while junior outside hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, N.C.) added 11 kills but the Bulldogs were hurt by 13 service errors in the setback.
Barton junior defensive specialist
Lilly Meyer (Greencastle, Ind.) added a match-high 24 digs but the home team suffered its five straight setback.
Barton remains at home to take on North Greenville on Friday in a league contest beginning at 7:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke returns home to face Converse Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
